How to Choose a Solar Installation Company in Costa Rica

Choosing a solar installer is about more than comparing prices. System design, installation quality, equipment compatibility and after-sales support all affect how well a system performs over time.

Before signing a contract, ask each solar installation company to explain what it will install, how it arrived at its recommendations and what happens if something goes wrong.

Two workers are installing solar panels on the roof of a house, with tropical mountains and low-hanging clouds in the background.

1. Ask for a design based on your property

A credible proposal should consider your electricity consumption, shading, roof or mounting conditions and expected energy production. If you need backup power, it should also specify which circuits will be supported and the intended backup duration.

Be cautious of recommendations based only on a brief conversation or the size of your electricity bill without further assessment.

2. Compare complete proposals

Check that each quote identifies:

  • Solar panel, inverter and battery brands and models, where applicable.

  • System capacity and estimated energy production.

  • Battery capacity and output ratings, if included.

  • Installation work, electrical components and exclusions.

  • Any permits, utility coordination or other required procedures.

  • Monitoring, commissioning and handover arrangements.

A lower price may reflect a smaller system, different equipment or work that has not been included in the quote.

3. Verify warranties and support

Ask separately about product warranties, installation workmanship coverage and the process for making a claim. Confirm who provides service in Costa Rica, how faults are diagnosed and whether service visits incur additional charges.

Request the warranty terms in writing rather than relying on verbal assurances.

4. Look for evidence of real projects

Ask to see completed installations similar to yours. Photographs are useful, but a detailed case study is better if it explains the property type, system configuration, design challenges and verified outcome.

Check references where possible, and make sure any claimed certifications or qualifications can be independently confirmed.

5. Clarify the installation and handover process

Before proceeding, understand the timeline, payment schedule, responsibilities for utility coordination and what documentation you will receive. After commissioning, you should know how to monitor the system and whom to contact for support.
